First, the idea. I already knew that I wanted to use an image of a friend of mine in costume as the main focus. This is a 3 minute rough showing the general layout.
You can see where I redid the angle of the wings and the size of the rabbit's head. Off to the right are a number of small size roughs. Next step, find reference images.

I scanned the above images into photoshop and played with their sizes until I was happy with them. I then printed them out and transfered them over to my watercolor board. 10 hours of painting later, I had this.
